Riga, Latvia — The Central Bank of Lithuania announced that it plans to adopt the common European currency, the euro in 2007, and replace its national currency, the litas.

Lithunia intends to introduce the use of the euro as an official currency on January 1, 2007, where it will be used alongside the litas until January 15. From January 15, the euro would become the only official means of payment.

Lithuania joined the European Union in 2004, and like the other new member states, it is obliged to adopt the euro when it is ready. However, in order to adopt the euro, a country must be part of the EU’s Exchange Rate Mechanism II (ERM II) for at least two years. During that time, the currency must not fluctuate more than 2.25% in relation to the euro. Additionally, the budget deficit should be under 3% of gross domestic product.

Lithunia became part of ERM II in June 2004, meaning that the earliest it could join the euro would be in June 2006. However, its target is 2007, which, at the present moment, seems to be achievable, considering the country’s low inflation and budget deficit. The litas has been pegged to the euro, since February 2002, at a rate of 1 euro = 3.45 litas.

So far, only 12 out of the 25 members of the European Union have adoped the euro. However, in the next decade, it is expected that most, if not all, of the ten new member states will adopt the currency. Lithuania is expected to be the first to adopt the currency, in 2007. Estonia and Slovenia, which are the only other new member states that are part of ERM II, are also expected to join the common currency at this time.

Larger countries like Hungary, Czechia and Poland, which are not yet part of ERM II, may have to wait until 2010 at least, due to their large budget deficits.

Lithuania has been one of the most enthusiastic new member states concerning European integration. Besides its early adoption of the euro, it was the first country in the EU to ratify the European Constitution.

In a deal announced yesterday, German association football defender Mats Hummels, the current captain of Borussia Dortmund (BVB), agreed to sign a five-year contract with his boyhood club — and arch rivals of Dortmund — Bayern Munich next season. The arrangement was conditional on Hummels undergoing medical tests before signing.

Mats is one of the best centre-backs in the world. With him we will increase the quality in our team even further.

Hummels previously spent twelve years with the Bavarians, Bayern Munich, coming from their youth system. He moved to Dortmund in 2007 after appearing that year in one Bundesliga match for Bayern.

With BVB, center back Hummels won two Bundesliga titles, one DFB-Pokal Cup in 2012 when they won the domestic double under Jürgen Klopp; and a silver medal in the 2013 UEFA Champions League. He also won the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

“Mats is one of the best centre-backs in the world”, said Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, chairman of FC Bayern München AG. “With him we will increase the quality in our team even further.” Dortmund’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said Hummels had “always been open and fair towards” them.

Hummels is to join Bayern side on July 1 — one year before his pre-existing contract expires with BVB. Dortmund’s website quoted Hummels saying “the decision was not easy for me after eight and a half successful years with BVB. I have always been proud and am still proud to wear the BVB jersey and to be part of this extraordinary team.”

Dortmund is to face Bayern Munich in DFB-Pokal Cup this month. After joining Bayern, Hummels would share the dressing room with his former Dortmund teammates Robert Lewandowski and Mario Götze.

Stretch Marks Surgery

by

Sandra Hargreaves

Stretch mark surgery is also available for all parts of the body and as of the moment, only a tummy tuck is available to remove abdominal stretch marks. Stretch mark surgery is by far the most pricey and also risky. This stretch mark surgery is often performed by your cosmetic surgeon and needs substantially greater recovery period afterward.

Abdominoplasty surgery(tummy tuck) is probably the only sort of surgery that truly removes stretch marks. In this procedure, the abdomen wall is made tighter by doing away with extra skin in the region of the stomach. The hefty price of stretch mark surgery is hardly ever covered by health insurance policies, because elimination of stretch marks is thought of a cosmetic procedure.

The bottom line is you are responsible for the stretch mark surgery expenses, so it pays to inform yourself on the funding selections that are available to you. Stretch mark surgery expenses are going to fluctuate widely based on the amount of work you will have completed plus the type of stretch mark treatment you choose. Once you have selected a doctor to execute your procedure, make sure you have a thorough knowledge of stretch mark surgery expenses so you are aware of specifically the amount to schedule for. Plastic surgery is really the best solution for removal of the stretch marks permanently.

Laser surgery is only really successful on stretch marks which are in the early stages of development, while they are dark red or brown. Laser surgery may not altogether remove all stretch marks though, but can substantially diminish them. Laser surgery for stretch marks removes dead and injured skin cells whilst sealing damaged blood vessels. It’s the most up-to-date and most impressive techniques used in the treatment of stretch marks.

Laser surgery will take off the top layers of the skin to promote the growth of fresh skin. If you ve had your stretch marks for a few years and they re now a silver- white or flesh colour, classic laser surgery most likely isn t an option, because they won t be detected by the laser. Even So, there’s hope for those who have mature or pale colored stretch marks with recent research and methods now being developed in the world of laser stretch mark surgery. A new laser procedure named Coolbeam claims to promote the output of fresh collagen inside compressed stretch marks, where a loss of elastic tissue and collagen play a major function. Despite the fact that you may be enticed by the cheaper prices that you find using types of procedures like dermabrasion, chemical peels as well as laser surgery, keep in mind that your expense may escalate when repeat sessions are considered necessary to obtain the ideal conclusion.

For the most part, stretch marks can be considered to be unappealing and many individuals look for modes of removing them altogether via stretch mark removal surgery. If you are uneasy with your stretch marks, keep in mind researching each option for removal of stretch marks to see which one best meets your finances and requirements. Surgical Stretch mark removal or stretch mark surgery is the only effective approach which can assure you a complete and enduring eradication of stretch marks from your skin. The effects from stretch mark surgery will be very powerful generally.

At least eight construction workers have died and thirteen more are injured after a building collapsed during construction in Qiuzhigou Village, a suburb of China’s Wuhan City. It is unclear how many more if any are trapped as the project’s coordinator fled and is being sought by police.

The collapse occurred at 5 p.m. local time yesterday and reduced the four-story structure to a five-metre pile of rubble. The building was a private residence and was illegal as authorities had not been informed of it. Its location in an area accessible only via narrow alleys is hampering search and rescue efforts as heavy equipment such as cranes is having difficulty reaching the scene.

Around 100 rescuers continue to pick through the rubble in the rain. An investigation has been launched.

The death of Scottish artist Alan Davie was announced on Sunday. Davie, 93, was known for his colourful abstract paintings.

Davie’s career also saw turns as a jeweler, a jazz musician, a lecturer, and a poet. Born in Grangemouth, near Falkirk, in 1920, he studied painting from 1938 to 40 at Edinburgh College of Art.

It’s an urge, an intensity, a kind of sexual need

His father was a teacher who dabbled in art and his mother’s family was musically inclined. Upon seeing Coleman Hawkins performing in a music shop in Edinburgh, Davie borrowed £600 from his father to buy himself a saxophone. After serving in the Second World War, at which time he wrote much poetry later transcribed by his father, Davie toured with Scottish jazz bands.

Davie’s work was admired by the likes of Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and David Hockney. Davie himself collected non-Western art and liked tattoos, graffiti, and ‘outsider art’. His final interview before death, with The Telegraph, gave an insight into how he viewed art: “It’s an urge, an intensity, a kind of sexual need[…] something I do from an inner compulsion, that has to come out.”

He initially avoided painting as a career at all, then spent several years earning money by other means whilst his paintings failed to sell. His exhibitions in the late 1950s, however, were highly successful and launched his career. He was in the habit of choosing titles for his art only after completion.

Despite a strong presence owing to his lengthy red beard and off-beat humour, he was shy; his international fame waned. Recent years have seen a revival of interest with price increases for his early art. London alone is host to three exhibitions this month including at the Tate.

Tate Britain calls Davie “one of the first British artists after the war to develop an expressive form of abstraction” producing “kaleidoscopic canvases[…] that the artist relates to his love of jazz”.

These terraces are also enveloped with a lot of flora and fauna that one will rarely see in the heart of an urban landscape. That’s just one of the many amenities in this condominium.

Another lesser known amenity is the fact that one can actually work here. If your employer set up an office at Eon Shenton, all you have to do if you live there is simply to go to a different floor and you’re already in your office.

Coinciding with Easter Sunday, Glasgow Cannabis Social Club’s annual 420 event was held on Glasgow Green, under sunny blue skies, and overlooking the river Clyde. Despite the city’s council attempting to revoke permission for the gathering at the last minute, police were happy for it to go-ahead with approximately a dozen officers attending in high-visibility vests.

The Daily Record reported five arrests were made for minor offences, likely smoking and possession of small quantities of cannabis. Taking a less-sensational — and more accurate — line of reporting, the Monday edition of Glasgow’s Evening News stated five were referred to the Procurator Fiscal who is responsible for deciding if charges should be brought.

Official figures provided by the police were that 150 attended. With people coming and going, Wikinews reporters estimated upwards of 200 attended, compared to nearly 700 who had signed up for the event on Facebook. Hemp goods were advertised and on sale at the event, and some attendees were seen drinking cannabis-themed energy drinks.

“I was searched and charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act (which is a lot of bollocks)” one attendee noted online, adding “not fair to happen on a brilliant day like it was, other than that I had a great day!” A second said they were openly smoking and ignored by police, who “were only really focusing on people who looked particularly young”.

Cannabis seeds were openly and legally sold at the event and a hydroponics supplier brought a motortrike towing an advertising trailer. Actually growing cannabis is, however, illegal in the UK.

With the event openly advocating the legalisation of cannabis, speakers put their arguments for this to a receptive crowd. Retired police officer James Duffy, of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, spoke of the failed United States alcohol prohibition policy; stressing such policies needlessly bring people into contact with criminal elements. Highlighting other countries where legalisation has been implemented, he pointed out such led to lower crime, and lower drug use overall.

One speaker, who produced a bottle of cannabis oil he had received through the post, asserted this cured his prostate cancer. Others highlighted the current use of Sativex by the National Health Service, with a cost in-excess of £150 for a single bottle of GW Pharmaceuticals patented spray — as-compared to the oil shown to the crowd, with a manufacturing cost of approximately £10.

Similar ‘420’ pro-cannabis events were held globally.
