Guess who just earned a spot for the Hurley Pro at Trestles 2014?

It s Costa Rican Carlos Munoz! And he is the first from Costa Rica to enter an ASP World Championship Tour (WCT) event!

The winner was decided through the launch of video trials where submissions were accepted worldwide and fans get to choose the one who will be able to claim the wildcard spot.

It was then down to two competitors: Carlos and Hawaiian surfer, Dusty Payne. Well, clearly, Carlos beat Dusty and with 14,927 votes at that, while Dusty only had 3,268 votes. The massive gap indeed shows the great support and trust of his nation.

With this victory and the opportunity to compete in the Hurley Pro at Trestles 2014, it has surely heightened his recognition in the surfing world.

Carlos feels it is a dream come true and thanks all of Costa Rica and Latin America, especially his family and friends for believing in him. This September, we await his performance at the main event.

His friends at Gallo Pinto TV were actually the ones who convinced him to join the video trials of the Hurley Pro at Trestles 2014. And with the support of his country that has been monitoring him in his every event, it has brought Carlos this far.

Now, who is Carlos Munoz exactly?

Carlos Munoz is from, as mentioned, Costa Rica and he was born on January 28, 1993. He is only 21 years old but he has world class talent that is definitely meant to be shown to everyone. His nickname The Flying Costa Rican absolutely fits him. This young lad has been named as the best Latin American surfer in the history of Ecuador and he was awarded the Todd Chesser Hard Charger Sportsmanship Award in 2012. His other achievements include: winning 1st place in the 2010 VQS Volcom Pro Junior Championship in California, USA, 3rd place in the 4STR WQS Mexico in Acapulo, Mexico, and 1st place in the ASP Airwalk Lacanau Pro Junior in Lacanau, France.

His participation in this year s Hurley Pro will then be the debut of a Costa Rican surfer and Carlos upholds being able to represent his country and with that, he hopes more surfers come out, though Costa Rica really does not have too much of surfing history. He feels lucky that he has been with his sponsors Volcom, Super and Red Bull for so long that he was able to pursue the water sport but he aims to stir the companies from Costa Rica and even the whole surfing community to help out on Costa Rican surfers to carry out their passion.

For the upcoming Hurley Pro at Trestles 2014, Carlos does not feel any fear, and he instead is very confident and very excited on what is to happen. He is up to compete with anyone and he is hoping that he gets to the final and perhaps, win the title, not just for himself or for his family, but for the whole of Costa Rica who has his back.

Let s go, Carlos and Costa Rica!
